Kayaking

NN members interested in kayaking are invited to join the Kayaking Group by signing up below.  Only new members need sign up.  Once a group member, always a group member, until you inform us otherwise.

Spring '08

Eight trips are planned, one every week at 10AM or 12 Noon on Thursdays, depending on the tides.  Please bring a lunch and a drink for all trips. Those trips planned for noon time are “Lunch before Launch” as we will be eating lunch at the launch site prior to leaving. There will be no rain dates again this year. If a trip is cancelled, we simply skip to the next one the following Thursday. Trips will be 2-3 hours long and the length varies from 4 to 8 miles. If wind conditions exceed 10MPH we may cancel or alter the trip accordingly.

Also this year we are considering adding additional trips and running these trips into the summer. We would like to know if anyone is interested in doing so. If you might be interested, please send either Portia or Bill an e-mail at the address below. We will be planning those trips in May.

Please contact :
Portia Kornilakis at
pkornilakis@yahoo.com   508-896-4259 or
Bill Wheeler at
brtbill@comcast.net  at 508-896-8057 for questions.

Kayakers interested in any of the planned trips must sign-up for each trip by going to Description of trips and making their selections on their individualized Kayak Trip Sign-Up List.  Using the web to sign up for trips will facilitate preparations and logistics, particularly with communication regarding reminders, last minute changes, postponements, cancellations, etc.

Be sure to bring a lunch and drink.

Trips will be 2 -3 hours long.  If wind conditions exceed 10MPH we may cancel or alter the trip accordingly.

KAYAKING GROUP POLICY AND PROCEDURES

  1. Each trip will have a leader.  A trip that is very heavily subscribed will be broken up into smaller groups (max 20), each having a leader.
  2. Rain and/or wind postpone or cancel the trip.
  3. PFD’s are mandatory and must be worn on all trips.
  4. Bring a lunch and consider bathing suits as weather allows, insect repellant and sun bloc /sun tan lotion.
  5. Also consider bringing a whistle, a bailer or pump, and windbreakers.
  6. Kayakers paddle at their own risk and make their own decision as to whether to go or not.
  7. Kayakers must stay in a group and not leave the group without informing the leader.  Anyone leaving the group
will no longer be considered part of the group.
  8. A sweep will be assigned to follow the group and all hands will standby if help is needed.
  9. Fun and Safety for all are our main concern.
