Hosted by Nancianne and John Kilpatrick

President Nancianne Kilpatrick called the meeting to order at 4:10 p.m. She welcomed the Board members and stressed that future meetings will begin at 4:00 p.m., so members should arrive early. The next Board meeting will take place on September 1, and the general meeting will be September 8, 2004. Members should inform the president of calendar conflicts and potential absences.

Future Board meetings and hosts are as follow:

    Sept. 1:

 Richard and Flora Hall

    Oct. 6:

 Betty Ann and Kerry Brown

    Nov. 3:

 Barbara Williamson

    Dec. 1:

    Feb. 2:

 Mary Mador

    Mar. 2:

 Maureen Jenkins

    Apr. 6:

 John and Anne McGovern

    May 4:

 Pat Gibson

The directors elected Mary Mador to the Membership Committee and Lyn and Carolyn Carlin to the Social Committee.

Vice-president Randy Miller is organizing the Nauset Newcomers calendar. A golf outing has been scheduled for October 14 and a Christmas party at Ocean Edge has been scheduled for December 15. Board members should turn in any conflicting dates to him.

Treasurer Ron Mador reported that Tom Birchfield would officially  pass the books to him on June 30 with an estimated $1400 on hand. Ron reported that our new insurance policy would be effective July 1,2004. It will provide one million dollars per incident, two million dollars annual total for general liability. For the first time we will have D & O insurance for all of the board members. Also all members who handle money in the Nauset Newcomers will be bonded for $10,000.  A discussion followed concerning the limits of the coverage. Ron agreed to find out if an umbrella policy was available and how much it would cost.

Past president Joe Borge spoke about the various charities the Newcomers had supported and noted that $7900 had been raised for local charities. Due to low funds in the treasury, a result of increased insurance costs, some donations will be deferred to the fall.

Committee Reports:
        Group Activities: No report
Social Events: Flora Hill submitted a tentative events list with a Welcome Back Party scheduled for September 22.
Programs: Stella Sullivan reported that most of the programs will be new. Her committee will submit information at the next meeting.
Publicity: Susan Hatch wants to publicize that Nauset Newcomers donates money to charities. She would like to explore ways to get this information to the general public.
Membership: Nancy Manning stated that membership renewal notices will go out at the end of July.
Hospitality: The new committee will meet with the old committee on June 17.
Raffle: Ed Sedlock said there is a problem with people not using the gift certificates and suggested using an expiration date to encourage use. Willy’s Gym wants publicity and suggested participation with a lunch, dinner, or dance. Mr. Sedlock said his best responses come from a personal visit rather than a phone call.

Webmaster: Dan Ouellette will report next month after a few adjustments to the system.

Dine Out: No report.

New Business:
Chuck Edmonson has been researching having a Nauset Newcomers baseball cap made up. The Board agreed to order seventy-two hats in various colors; ideally, they will be available for the September general meeting; they will be priced between $15.00-17.00. There was much discussion about how to pay for the hats. The Board agreed to wait until mid-August to order them (after some of the 2004-5 dues are received).

The next Board meeting will be held at the home of Richard and Flora Hill on September 1, 2004. The meeting adjourned at 5:25 p.m.

                    Respectfully submitted,

                    Betty Ann Brown

NAUSET NEWCOMERS BOARD MEETING – March 2, 2005

March 2, 2005
Home of Randy and Penny Miller

Changes noted in

VICE PRESIDENT Randy Miller brought the meeting to order at 4:02 p.m. He announced that President Nancianne Kilpatrick is again ill, and the entire board send their wishes for a speedy recovery. The last board
meeting will be a dinner on the first Wed. of June at the Miller’s house, followed by a joint meeting of the old and new board on the following Wed. at the home of Sara and Robbie Robinson pending acceptance by
President Kilpatrick, Randy asked for any additions to last month’s minutes and Debbie Owens suggested a change to the first two sentences in the New Business section. Her change would say “ We discussed the possibility of changing the by-laws to provide a larger pool of candidates for future Board seats, allowing up to five years of active membership rather than the current limit of four. Some Board members felt that there are sufficient candidates to fill the Board slots and a change to the by laws is not necessary. Randy and Nancianne agreed to suggest to the Nominating Committee that they
target new members who joined 1 – 3 years ago by identifying them and approaching them directly.” It was voted to change the minutes, but also agreed not to take any other action at this time.

TREASURER Ron Mador stated that as of 2/28/05 the balance in the treasury was $18,712, but outstanding bills will bring that balance down to $14,342 soon.

Due to the low turnout for the “February Fling”, it was suggested that any group party for next year should be earlier in the year in order to miss vacation times. It was also suggested that any group party planned for next
year should be earlier in the year in order to miss vacation times.

PROGRAMS: The Short Program will be the Lower Cape Outreach Council and the Long Program will be Norman Peyne’s “Irish Village”.

MEMBERSHIP:
The present membership stands at 991.

PUBLICITY: Gayle Adams said a NN ad will appear in the Cape Cod Times periodically.

HOSPITALITY: Everything is progressing well, but the Hospitality Committee needs a few extra hands due to committee member vacations.
Phil and Bunny LeBoeuf, members of last year’s committee, have graciously volunteered to lend a hand this month due to committee members’ vacations. The board also discussed a suggestion stating “no Styrofoam cups” from the suggestion box. The board decided no action would be taken since any alternative would be too costly and/or impractical. At the next general meeting, Randy will ask those using the suggestion box to please sign their names to their request so that any questions can be discussed with the person.

WEBMASTER: Don Ouellette has developed a new page with board nominee names and pictures. Some pictures still need to be submitted. The web page will be presented after the April meeting when the new board is announced.

DINE OUT will be at 902 Main Street in March and at Pates in April.

concentrate on digital photography and how best to use the features of their cameras and computers. The group agreed to monthly meetings on Tuesdays and would be a combination of afternoon and evening meetings. Afternoon meetings will include going together to particular sites to shoot pictures, and the evening meetings will include discussing the various cameras and critiquing each other’s work. Please think about
signing up.

Next year’s Bethel Ski Trip will be Sunday Feb. 5 through Friday Feb. 10. “The Bronx “ group will hold their first meeting in September. The board voted to discontinue the Fishing, Current Affairs, and Canoeing groups due to lack of leadership, but hope some interest in these groups will emerge again in the fall. Don’t forget the Gardening committee is having their plant sale at the next general meeting.  Bob and Sandy McLuckie expressed their thanks for a great year and have contacted all Group Leaders to be sure they will continue next year. They said most will continue or have chosen a group member to take over.

OLD BUSINESS: The board voted to purchase two tables for use in the lobby. R. Dill will purchase the tables for use in the fall.

NO NEW BUSINESS

We had a short discussion about how to get on the list to receive a donation from NN.  Each charity needs to submit a letter stating that they are non-profit and explain the need for the funds. The executive board makes the decision about which charities to support. There will be a preliminary meeting on May 11 and the final decisions will be made in June.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:27 p.m.
