President Joe Borge called the meeting to order at 9:36 AM.

He welcomed members to the twenty-sixth year of the organization and explained the procedures for fire exits and cancellation notices.

Dine-out events were next presented by Al Kouba.  He announced that the dinners at the Arbor are firm.  He asked if members would be interested in a dinner at Chillingsworth even if the cost could not be kept at $30 but would cost $34.  Members voted approval of such an arrangement.

VP Nancianne Kilpatrick announced that the Volunteer Handbook has been updated and is available.  The suggestion box is available in the lobby at each meeting.  She reminded attendees that all should pick up coffee cups, etc. at each meeting.

Joe Borge announced that copies of this month’s Secretary’s minutes will be available in the lobby at the next general meeting and that they will also be available on the website. 

Treasurer Tom Birchfield gave his report that approximately $2660 was carried over from the previous year on July 1.  Current revenues are about $12,000, with $7,000 from memberships and $5,000 from social events.  $2300 has been expended.  There is about $12,445 cash on hand, but this is an overestimate due to funds from social events which will be spent for events, leaving $9500 available for expenses.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Membership  Joe Swaluk reported that the new handbook with membership list will be available at the next meeting.  There were 781 paid members before this meeting with many more joining today.  With assistance from Joan Swaluk and Barbara and Bill Ferguson, the new members were introduced.

Group Activities  Bill Risko explained the clipboards and signup procedure and the booklet explaining the activities.  He said that new groups can be formed and that there is still a need for group leaders for some of the current groups.  Chris Kenny announced the Fun Golf Outing on October 23 at Captain’s followed by dinner at Sparkfish in Brewster.

Social Events  Nancy Austin listed some of the upcoming events and explained how to sign-up and where to find the flyers.  Ann Cuneo announced plans for the Xmas Party Dinner Dance at Ocean Edge on December 17.

Hospitality  Bob Johnson thanked people for today’s foods and passed the clipboard for volunteers for next month’s treats.

Webmaster  Don Ouellette invited members to visit the website.  The new NEWS page is still empty; members should email him with information.

Publicity  Pam Shinnick asked that information be sent to her for event publicity in the newspapers.  A two-week leadtime is needed to assure timely inclusion.

T-shirt Sales  Tom Riley announced that there are both large and extra-large sizes left from last year. 

Programs  Chuck Edmondson explained the short and long presentations at each general meeting and gave a brief overview of next month’s program.

After a fifteen-minute intermission, the Raffle was held.  Robbie Robinson reminded members to support the merchants who so kindly donate the raffle items.

Chuck Edmondson introduced the speaker, Tom Lenox of the Eastham Historical Society. He gave a presentation on the “One Room Schoolhouse” which is currently a museum in Eastham. He also presented the plans to enlarge it to accommodate more displays of Eastham’s history.

It was moved and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 11:30 A.M.

NAUSET NEWCOMERS GENERAL MEETING – October 8, 2003  

President Joe Borge called the meeting to order at 9:35 AM.  He welcomed members to the meeting and explained the procedures for fire exits and cancellation notices.  He thanked the Social Events committee for the recent event at Sea Pines.

Vice-President Nancianne Kilpatrick pointed out that Volunteer Handbooks are available and they will also be available on the website.  The suggestion box is available; members are asked to identify themselves if leaving a suggestion so responses can be made.  She asked members to clean up cups, etc. at the end of the meeting.  She reminded women that it is Breast Cancer Awareness month so appointments for check-ups should be made.

Joe Borge announced that copies of the minutes from the September general meeting are in the lobby and on the website.

Joe Borge reported for treasurer Tom Birchfield who could not be present.  As of September 30,  the balance is $18,522 but about $7200 is already committed, leaving a net of approximately $11,345.

Number of members attending today is 255.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Hospitality:  Bob Johnson thanked people for today’s treats and suggested fruit or bagels if they would like to bring something other than baked goods.  If members are to be away in winter months they are asked to please volunteer for another month.  He passed clipboards for next month’s signups.

Membership:  Joe Swaluk introduced the committee.  The new membership handbook is available and was put together entirely by Barb and Bill Ferguson who received a round of applause.  A supplement will come out in January with new members and any needed corrections.  There are  now about 950 members. Joe then introduced new members.  In researching Old Comers Road in Chatham, he learned that everyone since the Pilgrims is a newcomer.

Group Activities:  Leslie Pike reported for Judy and Bill Risko who could not be present.  She reported that the Bird Watchers Group has a walk scheduled for Oct. 9 and gave details about time and location. The Needlecraft Sign-up Board has disappeared so please return or sign up again.  The Fishing group is organized.  New Book Groups are forming.  Several groups do not have leaders so interested members were asked to please volunteer for being organizers.  Ski trips are being organized.  Phil Halkenhaus spoke about the Ski trip to the Bethel Inn in Maine on February 8-13.  Jack Childs spoke on the mid-winter getaway to Dostal’s in Vermont January 18-24.

Social Events:  Bruce Taylor thanked those who have signed up for Salem; just a few seats are left.  Mike Austin spoke about the Washashore party for new members at the Captain Linnell House on Oct 22.  He also announced the upcoming winter festival brunch and play on January 18.  Bill Boggess described the Country-Western Night on November 20.  Len Cuneo spoke on the Holiday Dinner dance on December 17; there are 16 vacancies left which are expected to be filled by end of the day.

Webmaster:  Don Ouellette said that the Calendars have been updated and all email contacts are updated.  Another page was added just for flyers so one need not go through the calendar.  Flyers will appear on the web two weeks after the event is announced and flyers are available at the general meeting.  He advised everyone to check the site frequently.

Nominating Committee:  Lennis Maynard spoke for the committee.  There is a table in the lobby with information on offices for next year.  Other members of the Nominating Committee are Pat and John Galante, Nancy Seavey, Florence Green and Dave Maynard.

Joe Borge reminded members that information on the officers and board members is also on the website.

Dine Out:  Chris Kenny spoke about the events at Chillingsworth in November and L’Alouette in January.  He reminded people that they are only called if their request cannot be served. They are not called if their reservation is accepted.  Also, except for those who sign up to sit with new members, the committee does not arrange seating.

Programs/Publicity:  Pat Edmondson announced that next month’s program is on Financial Planning.  Today the short program is by the Lower Cape Outreach Council and the main program is the Notables Chorus.

Larry Marsland spoke for the Cape Outreach Council.  He said their services are used mostly by the working poor and single parents.  He explained their programs and spoke of opportunities for volunteering.

Tom Reilly told the membership that more golf shirts and tee shirts have been ordered and will be available soon.

NAUSET NEWCOMERS GENERAL MEETING – November 12, 2003

President Joe Borge called the meeting to order at 9:34 A.M.

Joe introduced a Marine contingent and color guard who led the Pledge of Allegiance and presented their annual Toys for Tots Appeal.  Members should bring new, unwrapped toys to the December general meeting for children up to age 12.

Joe called on the 25th Anniversary committee of Jan Carlson, Tom Finan and Jean and Kip Snow to join him in presenting the 25th Anniversary plaque to John Vincent, CEO of the Wellfleet Cinemas.  The plaque will be displayed in the lobby of the theater.

Joe reminded the membership that the Toys for Tots program is on the webpage and everyone should remember to bring toys next time.  He reviewed the procedures for fire exits and cancellation of meetings due to inclement weather.  He thanked the organizers for the dine-out at the Arbor, the trip to Salem, the Wash-a-shore party and the golf outing.

Vice-President Nancianne Kilpatrick reminded members that Volunteer Handbooks and Activity Handbooks are in the lobby as is the Suggestion box.  Last month a suggestion was received to improve the sound system.  Joe Borge is working with John Vincent and they expect to have it improved by the next meeting.

Joe Borge announced that copies of the minutes from the October general meeting are in the lobby and on the website.

Treasurer Tom Birchfield reported a balance on October 31, 2003 of $16,185.  Joe Borge reminded the membership that money remaining at the end of the year goes to local charities; nearly $8,000 was distributed last June.

Number of members attending today is 245.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Hospitality:  Bob Johnson thanked everyone who brought food today.  He distributed sign-up boards for next month’s meeting.

Membership Joe and Joan Swaluk introduced new members in the audience.  Members are asked to please check the handbook for errors in listings. 

Group Activities:  Bill Risko announced that seasonal activity boards have been removed.  Tai Chi will resume next month.  Gallery hopping, gardening, and photography still need leaders.  He appealed for members to act as organizers.  A new nurses group is forming.  Needlecraft will meet soon.  The Dostel Ski trip still has openings.  Tom Finan spoke on the Bethel Ski Trip Feb 8-13.  Bill Risko asked leaders to please pick up activity sheets but leave the clipboards.

Social Events:  Bill Boggess announced spaces for Country-Western night on November 20.  The December Holiday dinner dance is fully subscribed with a waiting list.  Mike Austin presented information on the January 18 brunch/play; there are a few spaces left.

Webmaster:  Joe Borge spoke for Don Ouellette suggesting members look at new things on the website.

Dine Out: George Dunn spoke on the upcoming L’Alouette in January 12, 13, 14, 15.  Price is $33.35.  There will be a lunch at The Mews in February; sheets will be available in December.  Chillingsworth is sold out for all four nights. 

Programs/Publicity:  Chuck Edmondson described today’s long Program on Finance.  The December program will be The Midcape Madrigal Singers. 

The Fresh Air Fund Program was introduced by Peter and Susan Milsky who explained that it brings children from the inner city to the Cape for a summer vacation.  Ron and Sue Morissette who have hosted Fresh Air children in the past spoke on their experiences with the program.

Nominating Committee:  John Galante encouraged new Newcomers to volunteer for board positions.  Interested people should sign up in the lobby.

Tom Reilly announced that new T-shirts have arrived and are available in the lobby.

There was a fifteen-minute intermission.

The raffle was held, led by Robby Robinson.

Attorney Michael Lavender presented a program previously named “Ten Good Reasons Not to Transfer Your Home to Your Children” which he now calls “Consequences to deeding your house to your children as an estate strategy”. He also reviewed some of the changes in the Massachusetts tax laws.

NAUSET NEWCOMERS GENERAL MEETING – December 10, 2003

President Joe Borge called the meeting to order at 9:35 A.M.

Joe reviewed the procedures for fire exits and cancellation of meetings due to inclement weather.

He thanked the committees for the dine-out at Chillingsworth and Country-Western night at the Elks.

Joe introduced a Marine contingent; a representative thanked members for today’s donations to Toys for Tots.

Vice-President Nancianne Kilpatrick expressed thanks to John Vincent for the new sound system, which stemmed from a comment in the Suggestion Box.  She reminded members of the availability in the lobby of the Volunteer Handbook and Suggestion Box.  In January, February and March there will be available for purchase after each meeting hotdogs, chips, a soft drink and a showing of a current movie.

Joe Borge announced that copies of the minutes from the November general meeting are in the lobby and on the website.

Treasurer Tom Birchfield reported a balance on December 1 of $17, 801 with more than $10,000 available.  Joe reminded members that money remaining at the end of the year goes to charity.

Number of members attending today is 230.

 COMMITTEE REPORTS 

Hospitality:  Bob Johnson thanked donors for today’s food.  He asked people who will be away later in the year to volunteer for the January meeting and circulated the sign-up boards.

Membership:  Bill and Barbara Ferguson announced that the current count is 1020 members and introduced new members in the audience.

Group Activities: Bill Risko introduced Tom Finan who answered questions about the ski trip to the Bethel Inn.  Bill announced that room is available for the Dostel Ski Trip.  A new Rambling Rose group may be started next month.  New groups may be started by anyone who should contact Judy or Bill Risko. Canoeing and kayaking will reappear soon.  Members can always go online to sign up for activities.

Social Events: Bill Boggess reminded members of the upcoming Christmas Dance, which is sold out.  January luncheon/play is also sold out.  Two new flyers are available: the February event is the CC Symphony and March will be the Antiques Roadshow.

Webmaster: Don Ouellette announced that pictures from the Country-Western Night are on the website.  The News page will be used for a pseudo discussion board because having a real discussion board has too much overhead.

Dine Out: George Dunn announced that there are openings at L’Alouette in January.  The Mews in February is a luncheon; flyers are available.  He reminded members that they may sign up to sit with new members. He asked members to remember that organizers are volunteers who work with restaurants on arrangements. He asked that any complaint about an event please be reported to organizers, not restaurant personnel. Then the situation will be handled by the committee.

Programs/Publicity: Pat Edmondson described today’s long program by the Madrigal Singers.  Next month will be Don Sparrow talking on Cape Cod history.  Pat introduced a woman from the VNA who discussed services for seniors.

Nominating Committee: Committee members explained board positions and encouraged new members to volunteer for next year’s board.  They emphasized that being on the board is enjoyable and a way to meet new friends and get connected to the community.

Tom Reilly announced that T-shirts are on sale in the lobby and would make good holiday gifts.

There was a twenty-minute intermission.

Joe Borge announced that 200 gifts were collected today for Toys for Tots.

Chuck Edmondson introduced the Midcape Madrigal Singers who presented their interesting Winter Program entitled  “Contemplations on Christmas.”

NAUSET NEWCOMERS GENERAL MEETING – January 14, 2004

Vice-President Nancianne Kilpatrick called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M.

Nancianne reviewed the procedures for fire exits and cancellation of meetings due to inclement weather. She thanked those involved on the social committee for an outstanding job coordinating the holiday dinner dance at Ocean Edge.

Nancianne noted that following the meeting the Wellfleet Theater would show their current movies at the seniors’ rate for those who wished to stay. A hot-dog lunch would be available for $3. She also noted the availability of the suggestion box and the volunteer and activity handbooks in the lobby and asked people to please clean up anything that was brought into the theater with them.

Nancianne announced that copies of the minutes from the December general meeting are in the lobby and on the website.

Treasurer Tom Birchfield reported a balance on Dec. 1 of $17,800, with revenues of approximately $9,000 and expenses of approximately $4,500. Ending balance on Dec. 31 was $22,281, with about $11,500 available for use (the difference being funds that are already committed).

Number of members attending today is 259.

 COMMITTEE REPORTS

     Hospitality:  Bob Johnson thanked donors for today’s food and circulated the sign-up boards.

He suggested fruit and cheese as an alternative to baked goods in future months.

Membership:  Joe Swaluk announced that the current count is 1,045 members; Joan Swaluk  introduced new members in the audience.

Group Activities: Bill Risko noted that the nurses group is full, and he suggested the possibility of starting another group. The Mac Users group will meet on January 21 from 2:00-3:30 at the home of Gordon Avery. There is still space in Tom Finan’s group for the ski trip to Bethel, Maine – flyers are in the lobby. Cross country and snowshoeing are available for those not downhill skiing.

Social Events: Mike Austin noted that flyers are available for the following: The February trip to Hyannis for the Cape Symphony, the March Antiques Road Show, and an April day trip to Providence, RI. May will be a trip to Boston for the Pops; flyers will be available in March. Four buses will be going.

Webmaster: Don Ouellette held up a flyer regarding square dancing lessons to see if there was interest and then noted the updating of the web page and new additions.

Dine Out: George Dunn announced that the February luncheon at the Mews in Provincetown has space available only on the 17th. The March dining experience will be at the Nauset Beach Club in Orleans on March 16, 17, and 18 (flyer available). The April dine out is scheduled for the Country Inn in Harwich; the flyer will be out next month. Pat Eggers explained the option on the dine out forms of being seated with new members.

Programs/Publicity: Chuck Edmondson described today’s long program and noted that the February program will have an Abe Lincoln impersonator (“Setting the Record Straight”); the March program will feature “A Little Bit of Irish & More,” with Denya Levine, who plays the fiddle and pennywhistle. He then introduced the short program speakers, Robert Summersgill, Executive Director of the Cape Symphony Orchestra, and Laura Pardee, who plays the oboe and English horn. They noted the support of Nauset Newcomers and advised of an April Orleans town night, with dinner in Orleans and a backstage tour at the symphony. They also noted the availability of “Arts Passports” and that next year will be the 25th anniversary year of conductor Royston Nash, with a number of special events planned.  

Nominating Committee: Lennis Maynard thanked those who have already signed on to be part of next year’s board. Jan Carlson noted that there are still a couple of vacancies and noted the pleasure she has received from having served on the board. 

There was a 15-minute intermission.

NAUSET NEWCOMERS GENERAL MEETING – February 11, 2004

President Joe Borge called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M. Joe reviewed the procedures for fire exits and cancellation of meetings due to inclement weather.  He thanked those who organized the L’Alouette Dine-out, the lunch at The Arbor and the Dostel Ski trip.

In the absence of Vice-President Nancianne Kilpatrick, Joe announced that today there is a movie at 12 noon for members at senior rates preceded by a lunch of hot dogs.  He reminded members that the suggestion box is in the lobby; comments are welcome and are brought to board meetings every month.  Volunteer handbooks are available in the lobby.

Joe Borge announced that copies of the minutes from the January general meeting are in the lobby.

Treasurer Tom Birchfield reported a cash balance of about $11,000 on January 31.

Number of members attending today is 152.

 COMMITTEE REPORTS

Hospitality:   Bunny LeBoeuf thanked those who brought refreshments for today and circulated the sign-up boards for the next meeting.

Membership:   Joe Swaluk announced that the current count is 1052 members and introduced new members in the audience. Handbooks and supplements are available at the membership table in the lobby.

Group Activities: Bill Risko announced that the Mac users group is meeting soon.  A new activity is Darts.  Ron Braley is the leader and it will be for both men and women.  Structure will be organized by members.

Social Events: Bill Boggess announced that the Antiques Road Show is March 25.  April will be a day trip to Providence. The Boston Pops trip will be May 13; flyers will be out next month.

Webmaster: Don Ouellette was away so Joe Borge reminded members to access the website for information on activities.

Dine Out: George Dunn reminded members that next week is lunch at the Mews, March is Nauset Beach Club; those wanting to go should sign up now as two nights are already filled.  April will be at the Country Inn, which is a first time at this restaurant.  The committee is still working on May.

Programs/Publicity:  Pam Shinnick introduced the volunteer speaker Dave Norlach of the American Cancer Society who described the work of that organization.

Nominating Committee: Joe announced that there are still openings for next year’s board.

There was a  twenty-minute intermission.

NAUSET NEWCOMERS GENERAL MEETING – March 10, 2004

President Joe Borge called the meeting to order at 9:32 A.M.

Joe reviewed the procedures for fire exits and cancellation of meetings due to inclement weather.

He announced that the Orleans Historical Society is organizing a trip “Jewels of Connecticut” May 4-6.

Joe reviewed a suggestion from last month.  There was a request to resume theater trips to Boston, which were discontinued due to concern for high cost.  A clipboard has been put out to survey interest for next year. He thanked organizers for recent ski trips, Cape Cod Symphony and the Mews luncheon.

Joe reported that the Board needs advice on insurance needs for next year.  He asked for members with experience in insurance liability issues who would be willing to help on a one-time basis.  Volunteers for this should please see him during intermission.

Vice-President Nancianne Kilpatrick reminded members of the Suggestion Box. Volunteer handbooks are still available. This is the last month for hotdogs and movies after the meeting.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Membership:   Joe Swaluk announced that the current count is 1061 members and, with Barb Ferguson introduced new members in the audience.

Group Activities: Bill Risko announced that Kayaking group members may review the schedule on the website; participants can sign up on the website or on the board in the lobby and should sign for each trip they intend to take.  Chicken foot is off this month. Spring biking schedule is complete and has been sent by email.  It is also on the website and available at this meeting.  Biking resumes in April.  February 2005 is already booked as the date for the ski trip to Bethel.  Mac computer group date has changed.  Golf board is new.  Daytrippers say that only 8 people showed up out of 100 who signed up.  They will keep going for now but will discontinue if there isn’t more participation. 

Social Events: Bill Boggess and Len Cuneo announced that the next event is the Antiques Road Show on March 25.  The Providence trip on April 29 has 92 reservations, which fills 2 busses; if 38 more sign up another bus will go.  Boston Pops trips will be on May 13; four busses are contracted.  There were 180 tickets available and 96 of those were sold this morning. 

Webmaster: Don Ouellette is away and will return at the end of March. Joe Borge asked that all check the website for information.  He also announced that the calendar for May relative to dine-out is incorrect. That event will be on May 17, 18, and 20.

Dine Out: Chris Kenny announced that Nauset Beach Club is sold out.  Country Inn still has spots.  Final dining will be at Chatham Wayside Inn May 17, 18, and 20.  Flyer will be available next month.

Programs/Publicity: Joe Swaluk introduced the short program speaker, Barbara Kaymens, who spoke about CC Hospital Auxiliary.

Tom Reilly reminded members of T-shirts availability in the lobby.

There was a  twenty-minute intermission.

NAUSET NEWCOMERS GENERAL MEETING – April 14, 2004

President Joe Borge called the meeting to order at 9:32 A.M.

Joe reviewed the procedures for fire exits and cancellation of meetings due to inclement weather.

He thanked the organizers of the Antiques Road show and those responsible for a successful dine-out at the Nauset Beach Club.

Joe announced that the first annual Volunteer Expo is being held today in Hyannis. 

Vice-President Nancianne Kilpatrick reminded members of the Suggestion Box and stated that all suggestions received are discussed at board meetings.  Volunteer handbooks are available.

Joe Borge announced that copies of the minutes from the March general meeting are available in the lobby and on the website.

Treasurer Tom Birchfield reported a cash balance on March 31 of $9616 with about $9000 uncommitted. Joe Borge remarked that there is less money this year due to increased costs including insurance and no income from the garden group.  He informed the membership that because of these costs the board voted to increase dues next year to $15.

Number of members attending today is 210.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Hospitality: Bob Walter asked today’s food donors to stand for a round of applause and circulated the sign-up boards for the next meeting.

Membership: Joe and Joan Swaluk announced that the current count is 1072 members and introduced new members in the audience.

Group Activities: Bill Risko announced that a sign-up board is out again for survey of potential theater goers next year. The Mac users group will meet on 4/21.  Daytrippers board has been removed because the last four trips did not have enough participants.  The Fishing group will host a speaker from the environmental police on 4/21 in the Orleans library.  Biking starts again on Tuesday 4/20.  A flyer for the golf tournament on 5/6 is available.  A list of potential golf partners is still available. 

Social Events: Mike Austin announced that the trip to Providence is sold-out with a waiting list for another bus.  There are 18 tickets remaining for the Boston Pops trip on 5/13.

Joe Borge announced that four years ago Ken Selger started the Nauset Newcomers website which has since been taken over by Don Ouellette.  Joe notified the membership that the board voted to give a gift check of $100 each to Don and Ken to thank them for their great services.

Webmaster:  Don Ouellette has put up canoe, bike, kayak, and fishing schedules. He has updated the news page and activated the nominees page.  Every activity that has clipboards can be signed up for on the web. 

Dine Out: George Dunn said that the last dineout is on May 17, 18, and 20 at the Chatham Wayside Inn.  Flyers are available in the lobby and on the webpage.

Programs/Publicity: Pam Shinnick reminded members that there is a link to our website on the Village Green website which is sponsored by the CC Times.

Check Edmondson announced next month’s programs. He then introduced today’s short presenters. Sue Marcus and Sheila Davidson explained the Kids Voting Program, which teaches civic responsibility and voting to children. Elise De Groot spoke on Elder Services and volunteer opportunities via Senior Environmental Corps. 

Joe Borge introduced the current Nominating Committee members and thanked them for a good job.  Joe then introduced the nominees for next year’s board.  The election will be held at the May general meeting.  Nominees were given a round of applause.

Tom Reilly reminded members of T-shirt availability in the lobby today and at the next meeting.

There was a  fifteen-minute intermission.

The raffle was held, led by Robbie and Sara Robinson and Jake and Simonne Ketchum.

It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the March minutes.

A program on easy-care plants was presented by Ken Hawkey of Crocker Nurseries.

NAUSET NEWCOMERS GENERAL MEETING

President Joe Borge called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M.

Joe reviewed the procedures for fire exits and thanked the organizers of the recent social events.

Vice-President Nancianne Kilpatrick reminded members of the Suggestion Box and Volunteer Handbooks.  She announced that due to a suggestion received last month we had members greeting arrivals at the meeting today.  She led a round of applause for President Joe Borge.

Treasurer Tom Birchfield reported a cash balance on May 11 of approximately $9888 with about $800 of that encumbered.  There will be some additional income from today’s raffle and t-shirt sales.  We will have about $9500-$9700 at the end of the year.  Some will be left for next year’s activities and the remaining goes to charities.  All monies from the raffle and t-shirts profits go to charity.  He announced that there will be changes in insurance that need to be handled on or about July 1 and this may influence the balance. 

Number of members attending today is 171.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Hospitality: Bob Johnson thanked everyone who brought refreshments and everyone who worked on the committee with him: the Walters, Le Boeufs, Carol Pagano and Gwen Johnson.

Membership: Barb Ferguson spoke for membership and with Joan Swaluk’s assistance introduced the new members.  The new membership committee will send out renewals about August 1.

Group Activities: Bill Risko asked leaders to revise activity descriptions if needed before the Activities Booklet is reprinted for next Fall.  Biking runs through the end of June and leaders will email information over the summer.  Kayaking will soon have their last trip.  There is a canoe trip on Monday.  Mac user group will meet on Wed, May 19.  Trout fishing will take place at Nickerson State Park next Monday. 

Social Events: Len Cuneo spoke for the committee of the Austins, Boggesses, Taylors, and Cuneos.  Final event is the Pops trip, which is sold out. 

Webmaster:   Don Ouellete announced that he has updated the Board of Directors page with the soon to be new members.  He asked new members to send email, address and phone numbers to him.  He will update the calendars during summer as plans are made.

Dine Out: George Dunn reported that the Wayside Inn has a few spots on Monday and Tuesday, but he needs to submit the count today.  He explained table seating at dine-outs and announced that L’Alouette has been sold. 

Programs/Publicity: Chuck Edmondson spoke for the committee of Judy Rowe, Pam Shinnick, and the Edmonsons. 

Chuck introduced a representative from Wildcare who explained their work with rehabilitation of animals in distress.

Joe Borge introduced a Marine Corps representative who spoke about an upcoming fund-raising clambake.

A representative of COA spoke about the REACH program.

Barry Worth from the biking group told of the passing of member John Tighe.  He appealed for help with putting a bench on the bike trail in memory of John.  Any surplus funds will be donated to the Leukemia Society.

Joe spoke for Larry Marsland regarding an upcoming fundraising event for Lower Cape Outreach.

Nominating Committee: Joe introduced Nominating Committee, Nancy Seavey, Florence Greene, Dave & Lennis Maynard and John & Pat Galante.  He then asked the nominees for the board positions to stand. It was moved seconded and voted to close nominations.  There being a quorum present, the new board was elected unanimously.

Joe thanked the current board members and his wife, June, for their hard work this year.

Tom Reilly encouraged members to purchase t-shirts.  This is the last opportunity this year and the money goes to charity.

There was a twenty-minute intermission.

Bob Prescott, Director of the Massachusetts Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary gave a talk and slide presentation on Living with Wildlife on Cape Cod.
